Outstanding instrumental metal album that happens to pay tribute to FFVII. While some of the songs would pretty clearly lend themselves to great metal covers (Bombing Mission, The Chase, Let The Battles Begin), I was most impressed by how much some of the deeper cuts (eg. Mako Reactor) came to life as ripping headbangers. There’s not a weak track on here and the chronological arrangement further complements my enjoyment of the album. Highly recommended.

Rather than the cheesier, shreddier take on VG covers (which are also plenty fun, to be clear), REBORT takes a much more technical and progressive approach. Kezia era Protest the Hero instrumentation comes to mind at times, which is a big honkin compliment coming from me. The keys and especially the flute passages help set Random Battles apart from their peers. Great picks for source material. Rad stuff!
